I just stumbled upon this website which renders an icon, the name and grade (in Schall scale) of individual Via Ferrata segments on the map:
Looking at the "OpenStreetMap" way this information is already available in OSM as
via_ferrata_scale
(2 = B), and according to https://www.osmand.net/docs/user/map-legend/osmand#via-ferrata this should also render as a specific path style, yet this section on the OsmAnd map renders asHiking
from Path difficulty. Furthermore,Details
doesn't seem to show the value of the difficulty tag:Only when I turn on the "Hiking difficulty classification" does it use
sac_scale=demanding_alpine_hiking
to show a purple dashed line (again from Path difficulty):A bit further on this road the actual
Höllental Klettersteig
is rendered as aScale 3
Via Ferrata (and after some fiddling withPOI overlay
, I even have a clickable point - but there are twoVia Ferrata
items in thePOI overlay
list now):The only difference I see is the linked section has
highway=path
here whereas theHöllental Klettersteig
ishighway=via_verrata
, and only after writing this issue do I think that it's related to #12823. There used to be a rule (removed in osmandapp/OsmAnd-resources@1e7d033) that seems to translate anyhighway=*
tohighway=via_ferrata
if it has thevia_ferrata_scale
attribute?Is there a way to get that behviour back, or is the correct fix to start marking all these ways (even the short
Brett
section I linked at the start) ashighway=via_ferrata
? That seems to be done in the history of e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/140904963 for https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/mappen-und-rendern-von-klettersteigen/69524/2, but https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Via_ferrata#Criteria_for_taging_as_either_via_ferrata_or_path describes that this may depend on the difficulty. Either way, I'd love to see this information in OsmAnd :)EDIT: the
route
for this way https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/3201006 unfortunately isn't annotated with itsvia_verrata_scale
either androute=hiking
(like forStopselzieher
around the corner) but i.e. https://www.xctrails.org/map/map.html?type=allferrata is rendering it all either way.Back to the original title:
EDIT: Looks like it may be difficult to reconstruct i.e.
A/B
difficulty unless osmandapp/OsmAnd-resources@53d16ba is changed.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
