IOS 17.6.1 (iPhone 14 Pro) OsmAnd ; I have an annual subscription to OsmAnd Live.
This is the first time I’ve tried recording tracks with waypoints since OsmAnd 4.9 on IOS. On OsmAnd 4.9.2 (4934) on 2025-01-27 I did this…
Record track, noting several waypoints along the way by long-press>actions>add waypoint as I walked along the trail. When invited to choose the track, I chose (as I always have) the currently recording track.
Saved the track
On 2025-01-29 I looked at the track that had been recorded.
‘rec’ folder contained many tracks with strange names that resembled odd dates: 57051-10-14_13-47_Tue, for example.
Only one of the tracks had a normal filename. I did my usual edits to the track in OsmAnd - show on map, change the color, rename to indicate the location of the track, change the folder, export it to a .gpx file via share. The .gpx file contains no waypoints.
The other files remaining in the ‘rec’ folder appear to be separately stored waypoints but with meaningless dates. They are the 15 or so waypoints that I recorded with my track. They didn’t move to the new folder when I moved the track.
I closed the app, upgraded to OsmAnd 4.9.3 and did more testing.
I recorded a few new tracks with waypoints and the same thing happened… the new waypoints appear in separate files in the ‘rec’ folder, along with the ones from the previous recording.
I can delete the test tracks and the waypoints remain (separate files in folder ‘rec’).
I can delete the test waypoints (click on one of them >actions>edit waypoint>delete) but when I close the app, reopen the app, the waypoints reappear. I can try to move the waypoints and they appear to do so, but then I close the app and reopen and they are back where they previously were, unmoved. When I click on a waypoint and click on ‘Details’ it shows “Currently recording track’ and shows a bogus date of Oct 14, 57051 at 1:47PM (I am not currently recording a track). If I click on the waypoint then click on ‘Open track’ nothing happens. If I delete all the waypoints in the ‘rec’ folder, they are still visible on the map. If I record a new track, all the ones that I deleted from the ‘rec’ folder reappear in the rec folder. So it appears that waypoints are not associated with the track with which they were recorded and they cannot be deleted.
Has anyone else seen this? Before I report this as a bug could this be related to a recent change in a feature? The last time I was able to successfully record a track with waypoints was 11/17/2024 using OsmAnd 4.8.4 (4.8.4.1). For that recording, the waypoints ARE in the gpx file and everything appeared to be normal.
Steps to reproduce
Record a track and while recording, add a waypoint.
Actual result
Waypoints are saved but not connected to the track. Waypoints show up as separate files in the 'rec' folder, with bogus time/date stamps in the filename. They appear to reference track name 'Currently recording track', even though I have saved the track that I was recording and it was saved with a proper name (current date & time). I cannot delete these waypoints - I delete and they appear to be deleted but they reappear after closing and reopening the app. Same with moving the waypoints... if I move them, they appear to be moved, but then they are back in original place after closing and reopening the app. If I delete these bogus files in the rec folder, they reappear after I record a new track. Waypoints do not appear in the saved gpx file for the track. If I delete the track the waypoints are not deleted. The exported track is attached. One of the exported waypoints that appears in the 'rec' folder is also attached.
I expect the waypoints to stay connected to the track and when I put the track in another folder the waypoints will be associated with that track in that folder, not separate files. If I delete the track, the waypoints should be deleted. I should be able to delete a waypoint. I expect the waypoints to appear in the exported gpx file as 'wpt' tokens.

OsmAnd Version: 4.9.2 and 4.9.3
iOS version: 17.6.1
Device model: iPhone 14 Pro
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
Add waypoints during the recording via long-press > Actions > Add Waypoint.
Save the track, close, and reopen the app.
Check the 'rec' folder for the recorded track with waypoints, open it on the map, and press points to see the waypoints.
Go to Menu > My Places > Tracks > Recorded track > Show > Points.
Observed: Waypoints are incorrectly listed under "Currently recording track" and not associated with the previously recorded track. They are stored as separate files and persist even after attempts to delete or move them.
Expected: Waypoints should remain linked to the recorded track they were added to.
