On devices with low disk space it’s difficult to update maps because it seems like OSMAnd keep the « old map » and download the new aside, thus consuming a « lot » of disk space. My workaround is to delete the region I want to update and download it again when an update is available.
I don’t know how the maps are updated behind the scene but for the user it seems like a simple erase / download again the region works. Thus this should probably be implemented as either a possible update mechanism when disk space is low or the default update mechanism. However something like « OSMAnd live » (with one month period) would be preferable with only the deltas being downloaded, thus saving disk space and a lot of data transfer. Maybe you can drop the « old » update mechanism in favour of the « live » feature ? The one month deltas being available to everybody and higher update rates only via subscription ?
