Github Copliot Icon Will Not Appear

To reproduce:

Completely fresh install, including deleting all vscode config, caches everything
Install githup copilot extension

Github suggestions work very well
Enable/disable icon working in the bottom bar
The copilot icon will not show in the activity bar

Have tried installing other versions many times but can't get the icon to appear

Extension runtime status:

Activation Event:onStartupFinished
Activation Time:108ms
Command interactiveEditor.start appears multiple times in the commands section.

same issue. I just installed it, subscribed to it. the icon is showing in the right bottom corner but no icon on the left hand side.

I understand you are suggesting I install an older version of copilot from GIT or GITHUB. I need to find aset of simple step by step instructions on how to do this. I came up empty on YouTube or in GIT/GitHup. Do you know of some documents some where?

Go to the extension in VSCode, Press the drop-down arrow next to Uninstall, and select "Install Another Version"

This is happening to me as well on Linux. Keyboard Shortcuts to open the code chat don't work either

Ctrl+I and Ctrl+K, I (which says nothing is binded to that after). But I've tried rebinding it several times.

On https://code.visualstudio.com/blogs/2023/03/30/vscode-copilot it is written that to access this feature you need to subscribe to the waitlist. "Today, access to the chat experiences (in-editor and Chat view), you'll need to join the waitlist for access to the technical preview as we ramp up the service."

It is confusing because in the Keyboard Shortcuts settings of VSCode there is an entry GitHub Copilot: Start Copilot Code Chat that does not do anything. If the chat window is something extra, then at least entries like these should be removed to avoid confusion.

We're sorry that you're facing issues using Copilot with VSCode.

We're seeing a few issues with VSCode on Windows specifically, and we're working on it.

In the meantime, a current workaround is to roll back to a previous version of Copilot.

I had just subscribed to a paid plan,
and couldn't understand why Copilot wasn't running in VSCode.

Downgrading to 17.8.9758 worked for me,
on a 2015 Macbook Pro running Mac OS X Sierra.

Here are some informations on the VSCode version used:

I have three environments.
Mac: v1.82.15 works in VS Code
Windows 10: v1.82.15 works in VS Code
Windows 11 ARM in Parallels: only v1.78.9758 works

Could it be related to 32 bits and 64 bits versions?
I have warnings popping up on MacOS Sierra about VSCode not receiving further software updates.
Maybe because 32 bits compatibility is broken in the latest versions (VSCode and Copilot)?

Was running from WSL2 and the extension worked fine.
Moved out of WSL and had to downgrade to 9758 to get it working.

tried to search and install the version you guys mention (v1.78.9758) to be working but I can't find it.

Does anyone know of another version that is working or a solution to get the Github Copilot icon to appear?

Just got access to the Copilot chat and I have the same issue.

Im have the same issue. It worked for about 4 days then just disappeared. Ive tried uninstalling/reinstalling. installing via .visx package. signing in and out of my GH account. I use insider's with the copilot nightly and have completed the waiting list process and as i said it was working GREAT! then just disappeared and i cant seem to access or view anymore in vscode.

M1 not working. 1.128.0. Same issues as above, shortcuts don't work and no activity bar icon.

windows 11 v1.141.0 has same issue. There is no Copilot icon on the left view. and shortcut doesn't work as well.

I have tried install different version from above mentioned. None of them works.

I wondered if you have remove this feature or not?
