Open a codespace, use jupyter lab, open a notebook in notebooks/, create and run a new code cell 1+1 and look at the terminal output.

Fwiw, when using jupyter notebook I always get a kernel error.

For now I use JupyterLab by opening codespaces in VS Code locally but Jupyter notebook still can't connect.
