Large disk usage discrepancies in identical codespaces

I have two mostly identical codespaces (they check-out different repo, but their configuration and set of installed software is exactly the same and the repo themselves are small).

When I run du --max-depth=1 -h I get the following output within both codespaces (the same values on both codespaces, within a couple of hundred of MB of difference at most):

But, the weird part is that the usage reported at https://github.com/codespaces for these codespaces is very different: 2.58GB for one and 16.27 GB for the other (so almost 15GB of difference).

How is this possible, is there an issue with the computation? Some mistake that I might have done?

If someone from GitHub wants to investigate, I can provide the IDs of these codespaces.

Thanks David for your answer (not sure why it was marked as spam, so I missed it when you posted it). I couldn’t find any discrepancy using the hints that you provided. I could indeed see the difference in usage using df -h which shows that the / overlay filesystem is much bigger in one of the codespace. But, again, given that they were created and used in exactly the same way, it’s not clear where this comes from.
