If we have the commit_sha of a particular commit, how can we identify which branch in the repository is this commit associated with.

If we have the commit_sha of a particular commit, how can we identify which branch in the repository is this commit associated with.

There is currently no single API solution for this; however, a workaround seems to do the trick.

Collect all refs/heads/ for a repository via the API, then compare each to the specified commit. If the comparison result is BEHIND or IDENTICAL, then the branch (ref) contains the commit.

This method is applicable in both the GraphQL API¹ and the REST API².
