brew update on very old instance caused window to briefly open and then very quickly close?

Description of issue

I was updating a seldom-used M1 MacBook Air to macOS 15.2, and also decided to update its Homebrew install. Homebrew was in a broken state from not being updated in a long while, so I ran brew update. During the process of updating, I noticed that a small window popped up and then closed before I could see what it was. It's possible it was the macOS "Verifying" window, but I'm not sure what it would be for.

After removing some older pinned versions, Homebrew now seems to be in a happy place. I'm just slightly concerned whenever I see random windows appearing/disappearing. Is this something normal? Thoughts on what caused it?

Homebrew uses git which comes from Xcode, so if you haven't opened Xcode since it last updated then you likely saw the first-time verification of Xcode.
