We are engaging in a trial of the GitHub Discussions feature as a way for OpenSSL users and developers to raise questions about how to use OpenSSL, as well as to discuss OpenSSL generally. This provides an alternative venue for discussion and Q&A to the existing openssl-users mailing list, and we also hope that it will provide a better way to manage and triage user questions than creating GitHub Issues.
Starting from today, we encourage users to ask questions using the Q&A category of GitHub Discussions rather than by raising an issue. Questions raised as issues after today will be converted to discussions. We will not convert existing question issues to discussions at this time, pending discussion of the results of the trial.
It is our hope that the GitHub Discussions functionality will provide both a better way to organise and triage questions raised by the community, but also a more useful and accessible resource to the community seeking answers to questions which have already been answered.
We will make a final decision on the use of GitHub Discussions based on the result of the trial, and if successful, we are likely to convert existing question issues to discussions.
Users are welcome and encouraged to use Discussions both for asking questions and for general discussion. They are also of course also welcome to use the openssl-users mailing list.
If you have any comments on this trial of the Discussions feature, please raise them as a discussion in the General Discussion category.
