Consider the document

---
title: The Odyssey
authors:
  - name: Homer^[poet]
    affiliation: 1
    corresponding: false

affiliations:
  - index: 1
    name: Springfield (kidding!)
---

Tell me, O Muse, of the man of many devices, who wandered full many ways after
he had sacked the sacred citadel of Troy.
Many were the men whose cities he saw and whose mind he learned, aye,
and many the woes he suffered in his heart upon the sea,
seeking to win his own life and the return of his comrades.

Now, turn corresponding to true and you lose the "poet" footnote in the generated PDF. See:

AFAICT, that's a bug (I don't think that was intended?).

While this is a bug, I don't anticipate a fast fix here sorry @boisgera.

Thanks for the update @arfon

As a workaround, is there a way to re-use footnotes across authors, i.e., like it done for the "Corresponding author" and "These authors contributed equally" note?
Essentially, I need a way to mark several authors as "maintainers", or "core contributors".

The only workaround for this that I see at the moment is introducing additional affiliations.

I'm afraid there isn't sorry.
