Some people may be interested in using a hosted graphic or JavaScript version of this, for the purpose of contributing usage information back to data providers. For instance, imagine if these graphics were hosted on a service that recorded referrers, which could create a catalog of sites promoting that they're powered by open data. It could also track load rates, per referrer, which could be shared with the data providers, so that they can see how often their data is being used, by whom, and for what.

This is rather a more complicated (and fraught) goal than merely providing a badge, but it's worth considering.
