As a follow-up from the brief discussion with @will-moore during last week's meeting, I made a quick mock-up as a possible suggestion on how a logarithmic view could be integrated into the histogram display. Please feel free to move / rename / whatever this issue to make it fit your discussion process...

We have other options to consider e.g. exponential, polynomial so the checkbox idea (nice) will unlikely scale

Sure, that's just a basic suggestion that is modeled after the ImageJ histogram window (and what many acquisition / processing tools for standard fluorescence microscopy offer). It might not be suitable for other type of data, which I also mentioned to Will if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure that we need all the same options that are supported by the rendering engine (exponential, polynomial x n, inverted etc). Are these usually offered by other systems?
Seems to me that as long as you can see the detail (are there any peaks etc) where the intensity is very low (as in the mock-up above) then you don't care about the precise scaling.
If we do, we could use a drop-down chooser, but that would take up more space / break the alignment with the 'Show Histogram' checkbox.

We could later on offer the ability to change the curve on the histogram.
That was more what I am thinking of
