Preserve v3 Dashboard Layout When Upgrading to v4

Hello,

Is it possible to keep my existing dashboard layout (with all widgets arranged as in v3) after upgrading to v4?

I’d like to upgrade, but I don’t want to recreate all of my dashboards. After upgrading, if I don’t load the Dashboard module, the dashboard doesn’t appear in the menu at all. When I do load the module, the old dashboard gets replaced by the new default one.

Is there a way to preserve or migrate the old v3 dashboard configuration in v4?

How many dashboards do you have to migrate?

Since this is stored in the user preferences table, we could write a migration script for it. However, October usually ships with only a single dashboard, so recreating them might be easier.

I’ve got about 10 dashboards to migrate. I was mostly just curious if this was something already handled during the upgrade and I missed it, or if it wasn’t really considered.

I’ll probably take @daftspunk 's suggestion and put together a small migration script to recreate the dashboards from the user preferences table, since most of them are generated programmatically anyway and aren’t really user-customizable.

If the script is simple (I know the structures are very different), we could add a native console command for it.
