Is it possible to temporarily switch to another DPC app?

I'd like to do some one-time setup in the Test DPC app (https://github.com/googlesamples/android-testdpc). However, it's not possible to give the device owner permission to this app, because Island is already the owner. Can I remove the owner permission from Island and grant it to Test DPC, and switch back to Island immediately after I finish my setup? Will this break my apps and data in the work profile? Thanks!
