another issue is deps on (my) other github repos, which should be to tags/releases rather than master
since these are running automated tests I'm ok (for now) with manually running tests here.
but at some point this repo needs deps on specific releases and automated tests

You can specify dependencies on specific releases in your setup.py using an install_requires section: See here
