In case of sharding, split based on range of some integer in subject can make it easier. Same approach used by Redis, called hash slots and it's hardcoded to 16k, shards use ranges of hash slots to determine which shard should be used. Since NATS has partition function for subject modifying, range based subscriptions may help to shard NATS a lot.
Use case
Sharding and splitting NATS traffic and storage.
