VS Code Group Policy ADML configuration

Really happy we now have group policy settings for VS studio but the guidance (https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/setup/enterprise) is just awful. I am trying to set a list of allowed extensions and can see I need to enter them in the format { "Publisher.Extension":true, "Publisher.Extension":true } but I can't seem to find a way of finding out where I can get this information? I have been asked install the extension "Micropiko" but it looks like deployment of extensions is not possible so will need to advise every student to install it manually. Is there a way of installing extensions to a location other than %USERPROFILE% (like Program Files) as it slows down login times and creates lots of unnecessary data?

What do you mean by this information? Are you referring to the full format of the allowedExtensions property, or the "Publisher.Extension" details?

If you need the Publisher or Extension names to add to the allowedExtensions json then you can:

1. Open VS Code
2. Open the Extensions View
3. Search for the extension you need to add to the json, e.g. "MicroPico"
4. Click on the extension in the search results to open the Extension Details window.
5. You can find the extension identifier i.e. "Publisher.Extension" listed on the right hand side of the window under the "Marketplace" section.

Thanks for the additional details, The full list of supported policies is here: VS Code Enterprise Policy Reference.

To install extensions through policy, you would have to use a script and call vscode from the command line, e.g.

code --install-extension /path/to/vsix

using whatever system management tool is available to you, such as Intune.
