This feature will allow PowerToys users to customize their taskbar to their liking

What is the expected behavior of the proposed feature?

When enabled, an option for a taskbar editor would appear.

The taskbar editor would have an app drawer to allow the user to pick and choose apps pinned on the taskbar.

Other tools in the editor will be an aligning tool which would allow apps to be pinned in any order to the user would like. For example, a user could pin 4 apps directly in the middle of the taskbar.

A removal tool for removing certain elements in the taskbar.

A shortcut tool for pinning certain shortcuts in apps. For example, a shortcut which opens a certain page in the settings.

A widget drawer for taskbar widgets

Widgets such as an expanded calendar or a mini file explorer could be added. Other widgets can be added later.

What is the scenario this would be used?

Taskbar customization will let PowerToys users to customize their taskbar to their liking. Advanced actions can be performed on the taskbar. This will add a lot of functionality and use to PowerToys

-A taskbar enthusiast

this is a pretty broad feature that would be broken into many smaller items, fyi

I thought so as well though I don't know if making 3-4 issues would be allowed or seen as obnoxious.

I am a beginner so writing this was odd because I myself can't implement a lot of the features in here.

I always thought the windows taskbar was the worst design decision. So much utility could be added but it isn't there.

As a heavy taskbar user this bugs me (pun intended).

Anyway, I hope the idea at least catches on to someone who has power to make the taskbar better for everyone.

Idea: There are plenty of (still open) issues with suggestions about tweaking the task bar. Maybe this issue can serve as a container/tracker?

Would really appreciate #24938 to be included in this. The taskbar icons are WAY too big. :(

@pkondas what version of Windows are you using? And what are your display settings? And, you might find a setting for this in Windows Taskbar Settings, please double check.

Otherwise, there's a method with the registry, have a look at https://www.alphr.com/make-taskbar-smaller-windows-11 (for example)

I am running Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2. I will try the registry adjustment, but I wish it were part of the actual UI.
