Advanced Paste doesn't work on New Outlook #35197
Comments
Hmmm, I guess it's because Outlook first steals focus from the Window. I guess some combination of the modifiers ctrl, alt and/or shift is making it lose focus. Does using a different shortcut that doesn't trigger Outlook to lose focus from a textbox helps with this? /needinfo |
Yes, changing to, i.e., ctrl+win+v worked fine. |
Unfortunately we can't really do much if an app removes focus from the textbox you're trying to paste to 🤷 Thanks for the feedback. |
That's frustrating that the Microsoft PowerToys team "can't really do much" when it's the Microsoft Outlook team causing issues. I guess if this shortcut were built into full regular Windows, then gradually every application would start to respect it. But as it is, there is no top-down guidance on an appropriate universal shortcut for "paste as plain text", and it's confusing enough that Microsoft itself can't be consistent across its own applications. |
Microsoft PowerToys version
0.85.0
Installation method
WinGet
Running as admin
No
Area(s) with issue?
Advanced Paste
Steps to reproduce
I'm using PowerToys 0.85.0 and when I try to use the advanced paste with the shortcuts (ctrl+win+alt+v) inside the New Outlook it doesn't paste and activates the letter for the shortcuts menu.

✔️ Expected Behavior
Copy without any format
❌ Actual Behavior
Activates the New Outlook menu letters.
In another software, such as Word, it doesn't happen.
