Status of this package?

We are looking for an etcd3 client with Python async support and this package was recommended as the "most active" one (by Claude :-) ).

However, there is no release on Pypi other than pre-releases, and there is no release activity since 5/2023.

Is this package still maintained, and if so, can you please make a proper (non-pre) release?

It is unmantained. Python is, mostly, out of scope of my interests and I'm currently not using the package myself. But as its only strict dependencies are grpcio and protobuf, it should be quite straightforward to update the dependencies.

The package was never released as a stable one, despite being used quite intensively in production. The reason is uncomplete API. I had some ideas, that were never implemented. The big chunk of the package is just a thin wrapper over gRPC.

I see that new releases of grpcio still covered by version ranges declared by the package, so technically it should still work. But I haven't tested. protobuf has some new major releases, so probably the proto files should be regenerated to cover the API changes. As a whole compatibility with newer versions needs evaluation.

Did you try installing the package? Is it broken in some way for you?

We cannot use pre-release packages in our company and declaring it as unmaintained also does not actually help ...

If you released a 1.0.0 version that works with the latest versions of protobuf and grpcio, even if the API remains incomplete, that would already be a great help.

@andy-maier I've prepared a new version 1.0.0rc3. It should be compatible with Python 3.10 to 3.14, at least it passes all the tests. Could you please evaluate whether it is suitable to your needs? If it is working fine at least for your use cases I will prepare 1.0.0 release. I'm not aware of any major and active users of this library except for my former project, so it may contain issues unknown to me.

@martyanov We have now tried the latest pre-release version, and did not find any issues with it.
As far as I'm concerned the final version could be released.

@andy-maier I've just rolled out the 1.0.0 release. There are no additional changes made.
