Knowledge that arrow was selected

I am using the click-arrow-to-expand Interaction mode and would like to have different behavior if the arrow was clicked versus the folder item name. However, I cannot seem to figure that out by extending the interaction mode. When the arrow is clicked I do not want to trigger the item select. Any ideas?
