I've noticed that they are noises coming from Darkstar at random intervals (crackling) and when you focus on the Darkstar window, the screen effects "bleed out" (The checkered screen overflow area of a Star screen has a side effect where a ghostly halo of transparent greenish-yellow grids appear stretching horizontally across the screen Darkstar is in)
And, is the documentation for the RS232C and LSEP interfaces missing and/or not reverse-engineerable at all? Seeing those as the only two features not implemented for over 2 years made me wonder if this was too difficult.
