How to write open-ended recurring transactions?

The following periodic transaction is returning an error when running ledger:

~ every month from 2023/10/06  YouTube Premium
    ; Starts 2023/10/06
    Assets:USAA:Checking                                         $-13.99
    Expenses:Entertainment

Error message is

> ~ every month from 2023/10/06  YouTube Premium
Error: Unexpected date period token 'youtube'

Is the end date a requirement here? Is there any way to have it open-ended?

You need the end date. Put it a century ahead and hope you live to need to change it.
