Fetching licenses

Hi Mike,

We have been working a little more on our rphylopic R package and we want to make it easier for users to get attribution data for silhouettes. The API endpoint /licenses helps facilitate this for more recent phylopic submissions, but it does not provide all licenses within the database. I was wondering if there were any plans to make all available licenses accessible? Currently we've hardcoded all licenses available but would prefer to fetch them from phylopic if possible in the future.

That is a very reasonable request, and pretty easy to implement. It's a just a matter of figuring out how to add it to the API in a backwards-compatible manner. Maybe a /licenses/all endpoint? (I wish I could just retroactively make /licenses that endpoint, and add /licenses/valid or something, but I don't want to break anything out there.)

A /licenses/all endpoint solution sounds great to me! It would work for our intended purposes at least.

Hi Mike, we're planning to make some updates to rphylopic soon. Do you think you'll get around to this any time in the near future (just to get an idea if we should include it in our next version or not)?

I was hoping it’d be a good “starter” issue for someone else to start contributing to the PhyloPic codebase. Nobody’s taken it yet … let me see if I can drum up interest on social media.
