possible to set period tag delimiter in config?

Is there a way I could tell jrnl to allow periods as tag delimiters?
I see underscores work and was wondering if there's a way to configure jrnl to work with a period as delimiter.
I can certainly get by using underscores if it's not a simple config or compile option.
