Automatically detecting geo categorical resolution from lat/lon #18

low priority, but a possible addition to the geospatial resolution detection process could be to detect if lat/lon points are drawn from a specific categorical class of locations, e.g. states, counties, countries, etc.

This would be useful if the data was split up along a geospatial category, but only provided the locations in lat/lon coordinates.

A solution would require a built out tree of all of the categories you wish to possibly classify over, with areas (probably shape files) for each category element.
