Why does mysql also use mariadb lib? I want to use the mysql library, is it possible to add custom configurations

of MySQL:
    when isExistsMysql:
      result = mariadb.dbopen(database, user, password, host, port.int32, maxConnections, timeout)
      # result = mysql.dbopen(database, user, password, host, port.int32, maxConnections, timeout)
