I've been fiddling with the idea of querying browserlist and caniuse-api to automatically disable polyfilling browsers that already support the webapp manifest. That's something I really need for webapp-webpack-plugin and it would be great if favicons supported that out of the box.
If you think that makes sense, I'd be glad to work out a PR for it.
