Wildcard Certificate causes Connection Test to not open

My server has a wildcard certificate for *.test.com. This cause the Connection test to automatically redirect to https instead and fails to open conn.test.com/connection on chrome/edge. It does however open on firefox. Is there any way I can keep the wildcard cert and have connection test work. I am using apache2
