Hi @ibartomeus -

Thanks for openly sharing (and keeping up-to-date) your CropPol database !

I was wondering whether you'd be interested in getting your data indexed by GloBI?

If so, please holler and we can share some ideas on how to setup the index configuration to make sure that your CropPol data (and updates) are indexed automatically.

thx,
-jorrit

Hi Jorrit,

Sure, this would be great to do, but we will probably be slow at implementing new things, as the project is right now underfunded.

Best,

@ibartomeus apologies for my slow reply (over a year!). As CropPol data is already on GitHub, creating an index configuration might not be as hard as you think.

I noticed that the pollination data is spread across three tables (sampling, field, ownership). Would you be open to including a fourth wide table with each row containing a join of all three?

table would look something like:

study_id site_id sampling_method pollinator identified_to guild abundance total_sampled_area total_sampled_time total_sampled_flowers description notes crop variety management country latitude longitude X_UTM Y_UTM zone_UTM sampling_start_month sampling_end_month sampling_year field_size yield yield_units
Agustin_Saez_Rubus_idaeus_Argentina_2014 Arroyo Claro transects (in each transect I observed the number and identity of pollinatior visiting 200 flowers). Bombus terrestris specie bumblebees 67 NA NA 1600 8 observation transects per plot NA Rubus idaeus Autumn bliss organic Argentina -41.945183 -71.520683 NA NA NA 1 2 2014 1.2 7098.032432 kg per hectare

with a record looking like:

study_id Agustin_Saez_Rubus_idaeus_Argentina_2014
site_id Arroyo Claro
sampling_method transects (in each transect I observed the number and identity of pollinatior visiting 200 flowers).
pollinator Bombus terrestris
identified_to specie
guild bumblebees
abundance 67
total_sampled_area NA
total_sampled_time NA
total_sampled_flowers 1600
description 8 observation transects per plot
notes NA
crop Rubus idaeus
variety Autumn bliss
management organic
country Argentina
latitude -41.945183
longitude -71.520683
X_UTM NA
Y_UTM NA
zone_UTM NA
sampling_start_month 1
sampling_end_month 2
sampling_year 2014
field_size 1.2
yield 7098.032432
yield_units kg per hectare

Curious to hear your thoughts,
-jorrit

I guess this can be easily done by merging the tables. Is this the only thing you would need?

Yes, with a file containing the merged records from the three tables sampling, field, ownership, I can apply a index configuration and make your data findable through GloBI. Perhaps most importantly is to make sure that the original data contributors (the "owners" ?) are attributed in some kind of citation string / citation tables.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and looking forward to adding CropPol to GloBI's search index.

Please let me know if you need more info from me to proceed.

@ibartomeus sounds wonderful! I much appreciate your willingness to tweak your data products to make it easier for GloBI (and others) to re-use your work.
