Just tested the latest git - the problem is still here.

Some extra info:

1. Restoring Vesktop works on sway, so it's clearly a Hyprland issue.
2. Restoring Webcord from tray worked on Hyprland 0.45, so it's technically a regression. I didn't use Webcord or Vesktop, since then, so I can't tell, when it was broken, for sure

If there is any brave soul willing to bisect from 0.45 release - you're welcome. I'll try to bisect myself, when I have some time.

I managed to make vesktop crash, while bisecting. It happened, when the Vesktop window was closed and the mouse cursor quickly focused on Vesktop tray icon.

Okay, I bisected all the way back to 0.45.0 release and git reports that the first bad commit is dca75db which doesn't make much sense to me. Perhaps, electron issue, after all?

Okay, the culprit is ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT= wayland. If vesktop (and I suppose - webcord) is run under xwayland - it works, as expected. Probably, it worked on sway because it defaulted to x11, since I didn't set any environment variables in sway environment.

And looks like this is a problem with all electron applications, that are run under native wayland and have tray icons, not just vesktop or webcord.

Okay, I tested Wayland-native electron apps with tray on sway, and they are restored correctly from tray and there's no crash I mentioned above, so it's clearly a Hyprland issue, regarding minimizing Wayland-native electron apps and, since bisecting didn't give any meaningful results - I think the problem might be related to aquamarine.

aquamarine only does the very low level stuff, I doubt any desktop bug is related to it (considering aq doesn't even see wayland itself as it's below it in the stack)

Well, considering all I wrote above - I'm confused. Especially, considering the fact everything is working on sway. And the fact electron wayland-native apps are bugged on commits they used to work

Given that -disable-gpu flag somewhat fixes the issue and aquamarine manages low-level gpu-related stuff, as well as given the fact everything works on sway and bisecting Hyprland didn't help to catch the issue and even supposed to be good commits are broken - I think looking into aquamarine makes sense.

I'd gladly bisect aquamarine to catch the issue, but I have no idea - how to manage all the dependency hell, so it's probably not an option. I tried, in fact.

Wayland-native electron apps work correctly, if they are launched with -disable-gpu. Tested on vesktop flatpak.

UPD: Well, not always. There's a roughly 20% chance they crash with the following error

UPD (again): The latest Hyprland update fixed wayland vesktop for me, but webcord and a couple of other electron apps with tray are still borked.

Also, there was a small flatpak vesktop update, but there's nothing related to the problem in the patch changelog. https://github.com/Vencord/Vesktop/releases/tag/v1.5.6
