I’ve had luck before with pseudo-tiling the windows, but I’m not sure why you even want to do this in the first place. What’s your use case here? Nobody is talking about it because it’s not really a Hyprland issue, or even an issue at all, but a consequence of how games work. Even Windows can’t do this and you’re going to keep getting told the same thing from both Linux and Windows users: play in fullscreen if you can and Borderless if not because true “Exclusive Fullscreen” has a lot of implications besides just taking up your whole screen. My understanding from when I encountered this myself is that tiling compositors expect to be able to change window properties at-will like resolution, aspect ratio, position/size, etc. but video games can’t really handle that because they rely on those properties not changing. Many games actually disallow resizing the window from the compositor entirely and put that in the settings menus because it’s not as simple as “redraw the window”; I’d bet good money that if you played these same games on Windows in windowed mode, you wouldn’t be able to resize the window there either and would have to use the settings menu. Without full screen there’s also no HDR, VRR, direct scan out, or tearing, and Hyprland uses VFR, damage detection, and VSYNC for tiled windows so that it can keep resource usage low. You just can’t tile game windows if you want a stable frame rate. |

I'm trying to play Steam games in tiled mode, but that seems to break a lot of games. Basically everything works in fullscreen or if I don't force tiling, but as soon as I try to tile games, they either don't launch, or run so poorly that you could mistake it for a slide show. I haven't really found anybody talking about this issue, as every discussion I've seen talks about how to get games to run in fullscreen or floating window mode.
