True Xmonad master behavior

The only thing stopping me from switching to Hyprland is the way it handles new windows when new_is_master is disabled. I would like my new window to go directly above the current selected window. Regardless of whether or not the window I have selected is master or not. If I have selected the master window and I create a new window I would like the new window to become master.

It's been a while since I ran hyprland and opened this issue about it but I'm pretty sure current behavior would be to put the new window below the current master. Then I would have to promote that new window to master.

Basically the window at the top of the window stack should be master.
