Unable to resize 1Password floating window

Hi,

I have an SSH key configured via 1Password, and when I run git commit 1Password would show a pop-up window where I could authenticate. However, the popup is no longer showing at the right size. I tried a few different things to resize it, but the thing that worked was to create a windowrule that puts 1password on the special workspace at fullscreen to display at the right size. This makes the popup appear at the correct size but when I try input a password I get weird flashes and if I stop typing for a few seconds and start again I get weird behavior (as if a key is stuck).

One of the other things I tried was using RMB binding to resize (from default config). When I right click and drag the window shows at the right size for a fraction of a second but immediately changes back to the initial size.

Also tried to set minsize, nomaxsize and size parameters with float but that seems to only affect the main 1Password window and not the small pop-up windows it can spawn.

I haven't installed hyprshot yet but I found this reddit post with a video that appears to be the same issue

Yep, I get the same issue with the 1password popup too. Only happens sometimes and usually when I freshly launch the browser. Although it can sometimes happen totally randomly. It's almost like hyprland is no longer watching for the window resize so it's stuck at a smaller initial size or something.

This is a regression as it didn't used to happen but It's not super recent so I haven't tracked down the commit.

Same thing happening to me since the update to 0.51.1, when using 1Password under Wayland.

I think the issue isn't the max_size. That's why you can't resize the window. I believe that is intended though. I think the issue is that it's setting the max_size based on the rendered content. You can see in my video (the first one) that the content is coming in as squished. So it's like hyprland is not allowing the app to properly calculate the desired size because the content is squished. At least that's my totally uneducated theory. Eventually it seems the the "squished" content is rendered properly but by then the window max_size has already been set. Maybe that's why it is intermittent for me and not for others. Maybe it's creating a race condition where a faster computer is less likely to be affected?

For anyone running into this a work around for this issue is to launch 1password as an x11 app rather than wayland. It has resolved the small window issue for me. Not ideal but from a user experience point of view much better than the small window problem.

ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT=x11 /usr/bin/1password --silent

Just have that run on startup and it will launch 1password using xWayland rather than Wayland and the window size should be correct. x11 apps bring other issues so this isn't perfect but so far at least it's working for me.

I don't really care how it guesses its own size, that's an app bug. It sets min and max size to 400x100

The max size getting set to 400x100 is unique to Hyprland. I've tested this on Sway and this bug doesn't happen. So Hyprland is doing something different than other Wayland compositors.

Edit: Just to clarify, the bug here isn't that the window can't be resized as the title of the issue suggests. The bug is that the window ends up not sized properly. Just in case there was any confusion there.

unless you can specifically point out where hyprland violates the spec, this is not a hyprland bug.

I can make a window that bugs out on Hyprland too:

I have reported this issue to 1password. I sent an email to support at 1password.com with a description of the issue and I would suggest anyone experiencing this to do the same.

Got a response back from 1password and they say the latest beta should fix this. I installed the beta 8.11.18 and it does indeed resolve the sizing issue. So to anyone affected install the beta or wait for the next release and all should be good.

If you are on arch the betas are on the aur.

So this discussion can probably be closed now since it's not a hyprland issue.

Probably a noob question but 1pass beta is not maintained by 1password but by ag_jtdressel, is it safe?

Well nothing you get on the internet is fully "safe" there are supply chain attacks that happen even with well known companies on packages they maintain. That being said on the aur you can view the PkgBuild and see exactly what runs when you install. So I would say it's as safe as anything else on the internet.

Haven't check this thread in a while but I've installed the Beta and confirm it's no longer an issue. I feel like 1Password have cheated and just increased the minimum size of the window, but I guess it works 🤷‍♂
