Duplicated Apple Studio Display detected

For some reason, my Apple Cinema Display shows up as two monitors:

I had the same problem in KDE Plasma, but there, I could just tell it to ignore the second (ghost) monitor, the one connected via DP-8. But in Hyprland, monitor = desc:Apple Computer Inc StudioDisplay 0x2D5687B6,disable would disable both the real monitor and its ghost, since they have the same serial number. Is there another way to distinguish them? I could target any monitor connected via DP-8, but that might come back to haunt me later.

I don't think there is a solution atm other than dp-8

Just tried rebooting, where DP-7 and DP-8 switch places, so that doesn’t really work either.

KDE reliably turns the ghost off and leaves the real monitor active. In Niri, the ghost is deteced as “unknown”, so I was able to turn it off with

}

Ironically, that might be because it does a worse job at identifying the ghost. Let me know if I can provide more helpful info somehow.

can you enable logs, run hyprland with HYPRLAND_TRACE=1 AQ_TRACE=1, exit, and attach the log?

Yes, here you go. In this instance, it’s DP-8 that’s the “ghost”. I noticed that the ghost is reporting the weird half-width, normal height [email protected] as its highest available resolution, and not the native resolution of the display, [email protected].

The hardware is a 2025 Framework Laptop 13 with the Apple Cinema Display connected directly to the laptop with the Thunderbolt cable that came with the monitor.

yeaaa... I can't see any difference in DP-7 and 8 in the logs. Might be hard to distinguish...
