On layout navigation in fullscreen a resize is caused from its original size in the layout to the size of the screen.

Context:

I have two application in a workspace in fullscreen. Neovim and a navigator. I switch between them quite frequently.
The annoying thing is that neovim (and by extention the terminal) recieves a window resize event which messes my splits inside neovim.

At first i thought this might be caused by the annimations but i disabled them and the problem still persits. I think the cause of the problem is that only the focused window is resized to the size of the screen the other windows are set to their size in the layout.
Would it be possible to have the windows all the same size in the background when full screen such that when switching between them
doesn't send resize events ?

Note:

I have a fix for nvim that isn't ideal autocmd on WinResize that does<ctrl-w>= this works for simple splits. But not when i have a non uniform layout of splits.

I have the same issue and was directed here.
It's kind of sad because I came from AeroSpace on Mac especially to HyprLand to get rid of all the workarounds and quirks, thinking when the window manager is native, the problems would go away. I suppose in a way it's still true, as the only issue I really have is this one :)

For now I suppose a workaround could be to create workspaces for all the affected apps, and somehow hide them from Waybar etc.
Or use groups..

This problem made me change my workflow a bit since then. I effectively have what you described (only one application on each workspace). Fixed every thing but it forces you to change your setup around what Hyprland is designed for 😁. Also i don't have a bar as I find it's a waste of screen estate that is only used sporadically. I'm pondering a pop up that has what you typically have in a bar but only open it on a key bind when you need it. (would need time to tweak my config but work has me swamped xD)

PS: Which is fair by the way. (Can't accommodate every single setup). If it was a deal breaker i would have switched to something else.

In fullscreen, all apps that aren't fullscreen are kept at their layout sizes. Why? Because either you'll see that resize when you switch (like rn) or you will see it when you toggle fullscreen on/off (the alternative). You can't escape the resize.

yea.. I mean I just tested groups and while that takes up some vertical space due to the group headers, I think i'll stick with this for now :)

groups have the other behavior, yes. The key design decision here was ungrouping all windows is a rare operation, while for most people toggling fullscreen is much more common than cycling fullscreen.

Thanks for the response! In my workflow, for toggling full screen I would expect the resize. swapping between full screen sized windows not.
If it's an A or B situation, I wouldn't mind some form of configurability; even if only at a global level.
