systemd-coredump[1826]: Process 886 (Hyprland) of user 1000 dumped core.

Hi,

I'm running CachyOS, Hyprland 0.50.1.

When I run hyprland and logout with hyprlctl dispatch exit I will see the log fill up with systemd-coredump for Hyprland. If I logout with pkill -u $USER I don't see the coredumps as often, or rarely...

If I run hyprland uwsm and log out with uwsm stop I am also getting coredumps for Hyprland.

Since I'm using CachyOS, I made a report over at their GitHub, in case there could be something going on related to CachyOS. I posted logs and the coredump...

These are the steps I did...

1. ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf
   debug:disable_logs = false

2. Followed the info here;
   https://wiki.hypr.land/Crashes-and-Bugs/

~/.config/hypr/config/environment.conf
env = XDG_CACHE_HOME,$HOME/.cache/hyprland

3. Logged out of Hyrpland and logged back in.

4. Looked in ~/.cache/hyprland there was no hyprlandCrashReport[XXXX].txt to be found

5. Ran the cmd; cat $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/hypr/$(ls -t $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/hypr/ | head -n 2 | tail -n 1)/hyprland.log

It just sat there at the terminal and did nothing, here's a screen shot;

I can only find, coredumps; (and output below from the log)

Also this output of the coredump from the log, starting at Line 1662.

I did as you asked, built Hyprland in debug mode, when I started hyprland I had ~/.config/hypr/hyprlandd.conf

Hightlighted pkg on the right is the arch pkg built with debug;

Then I ran coredumpctl debug Hyprland but no good... 😮‍💨

When I logged out before running the cmd, I did get a coredump;

odd, but if you have the core, try piping it directly into gdb. Should work (I think you have to pipe the unzipped one though)

I am a Linux Geek/Nerd, but who knows everything, right, LOL 🤪

The coding/debug software side of things is not something I've messed with but only a few times in the distant past.

If it's not to much to ask, can you please tell me what steps I need to do to pipe this to gdb as you mention?

For an existing coredump, simply

1. run coredumpctl to get the PID of the crash.
2. ensure you've got debug symbols available for your distro.
3. coredumpctl gdb PID

On Arch DEBUGINFOD_URLS="https://debuginfod.archlinux.org/"

Example:

$ DEBUGINFOD_URLS="https://debuginfod.archlinux.org/" coredumpctl gdb 3568

4. at the gdb prompt either bt full or t a a bt full and attach the output in a file or collapsible section.

Also in the Hyprland config do I debug:disable_logs to false for this as well?

I posted screen shots, just to show I was doing as told, since no one knows me, and if someone came back saying like;

Well there's no way, if you do this, then it's going to work.

And since this wasn't working, and I wasn't sure if it could fail, even if I did things correctly, I posted the shots to show I was doing it correctly is all.

One other I started noticing, if I am doing something, and I log out and back into Hyprland a lot, at some point when I type hyprland, it loads all the text on the screen, and when that has completed like it's at the last line, where it would normally start booting up it just hangs there and locks up.

It will lock up like this, typically around 1 minute and then it boots into hyprland, But when I'm on the desktop, waybar won't appear for around 30-45 seconds, and then a lot of apps the settings are messed up, like it reverts many of them back to a default state before I made adjustments.

Wow. almost exactly none of that is necessary.

Vars aside, the first thing you'd want to test is moving your config file(s) out of the way and checking the behavior of the default session.

Alternatively, create a fresh, new user account and log in with that.

I did a fresh install of CachyOS before to test this, to try and see if this had anything to do with my setup.

I didn't change anything on the install, I simply installed it, then once I logged in, logged out and I was still getting the core dumps...

The apps I'm using are all calling for these ENV VAR to be set, that is why I have them. With the exception of the Windowdecoration, that's not needed...

Also I noticed if I don't use env = GBM_BACKEND,nvidia-drm and env = NVD_BACKEND,direct I've been getting flickering on the desktop and with the terminal...

I didn't just haphazardly put them all there.

Focus on one issue at at time.

If hyprland is still crashing at logout with a clean user profile and default config, capture that coredump.
