How to do HiDPI in XWayland better than GDK_SCALE=2

Use this in your config:

xwayland {
    force-zero-scaling = true
}

env = XCURSOR_SIZE,24
exec-once=xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources

Then create your ~/.Xresources file and put in it:

Xft.antialias: true
Xft.hinting:   true
Xft.rgba:      rgb
Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
Xft.dpi:       192

This should get you going. Do not set GDK_SCALE=2. It will scale twice. Notice how much clearer the fonts are with this solution, and steam also works properly.

Note that even on latest commit as of this writing, there is a bug on secondary monitors which will make it hard to click in certain areas of electron apps like signal and discord. The solution is to move these screens to the primary monitor for now, which sucks, but it it something that has been tackled a few times by the team based on my research, I think they just need to know it's still happening.

This is a much better solution overall than GDK_SCALE.

Spotify runs wayland-native with these flags --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland --enable-wayland-ime=true. The last one is not needed if you don't use an IME.

The point here, I'll remind you, is to get XWayland looking nice. Changing spotify to wayland kind of defeats the point for an effective screenshot that demonstrates the point I was trying to make.

I get what you're saying, and another app can be used as example. My point is to use wayland for any app that supports it.
