Making New floating windows spawn where the mouse cursor is

Hello there!

I have been working today in ways to achieve this and I'm very close. Probably tomorrow with fresh energy I will make it work.

I'm using hyprctl cursorpos to get the cursor position and then I'm creating a persistent rule to force position.

The issue I have is that the windows don't spawn right where the cursor is.

I don't think the problem is related to the parsing logic that I'm using on my bash script.

So far, I'm only using xpad to test the feature, tomorrow I'm planning to try it with Alacritty as well, but I don't think the problem is related to xpad.

I think it has to be something with the environment.
I'm not sure yet and I'm feeling very tired from today. Tomorrow I will give another go.

I was wondering if someone know how do to this and can recommend me a way to go. I don't think it's that hard and I'm pretty sure someone more experienced than me as achieved this already.

Done, the issue was with a comma not being parsed properly.... The devil is on the details

Sure, I ended doing this script which works pretty well, You need to adjust the offset to your preferences, I move it slightly from the center bcs i feel like it fit my aim better, here is an example for Xpad.

Basically I use a short cut on my Hypr config file to launch the script; You need to make a new script for each application you want to launch this way:

CURSOR_POS=$(hyprctl cursorpos | tr -d ',')
CURSOR_X=$(echo "$CURSOR_POS" | awk '{print $1}')
CURSOR_Y=$(echo "$CURSOR_POS" | awk '{print $2}')

X_OFFSET=-150  # Adjust based on xpad width
Y_OFFSET=-150  # Adjust based on xpad height

FINAL_X=$((CURSOR_X + X_OFFSET))
FINAL_Y=$((CURSOR_Y + Y_OFFSET))

hyprctl keyword windowrulev2 "move $FINAL_X $FINAL_Y,class:^(xpad)$" 

xpad &

For example, for Alacritty:

CURSOR_POS=$(hyprctl cursorpos | tr -d ',')

alacritty &
