Comparison with Greenplum

I am currently looking into multiple database solutions for business analytics. It seems like Greenplum provides similar features to hydra. What improvements or difference are there?

I have not used Greenplum personally but here's what I know:

• Greenplum is a Postgres fork, while Hydra only extends Postgres via extensions. That means you get everything you expect from normal Postgres without concerns about compatibility. This also means Hydra can be built on and incorporate new features of new Postgres releases much faster, and stay up to date with latest security and bug fixes.

• Greenplum targets parallel processing first and foremost, while Hydra is focused on columnar performance. Hydra Columnar supports the Postgres worker parallelization system to parallelize table scans (gather), in addition to other use of workers already built into Postgres.

Overall the performance (as shown in Clickbench) is quite close overall - we are within about 10%, which is pretty negligible - but Greenplum and Hydra each have their strengths and weaknesses on different queries.
