Maybe find info on nearby shelters and forward the user to their website?

Alternatively, send them to a webcam, where puppies never stop!

Egs from http://www.onlinedoggy.com/Affiliates.aspx?state=[STATE_NAME]:

Could write a scraper to find all of the webcams not behind a password or which're using a particular plugin (Java, Flash, etc.).

Others I found:

You can find a shelter on Petfinder using https://www.petfinder.com/animal-shelters-and-rescues/search/?location=$ZIP_CODE. ASPCA points to this tool, so it's probably pretty legit.

mlaffs mentioned Washington Animal Rescue League as a potential source of gifs—something to think about that is also along these lines. Shelter-sponsored gifs.

Similar train of thought: @rshorey mentioned that

@CutePetsBmore and other similar local bots tweet out adoptable animals

@heyitsolivia, I'll take a whack at adding some Pet Finder functionality now that the code knows when we're out of puppies.

geocode by IP and offer pet adoptions based on the region users are in?

If @mileswwatkins can get the petfinder thing working, it could be even more relevant.

I think the pet listings on TSPP are its own, but its shelter listing is "Powered by Petfinder."
