This is a great idea, sorry it got lost and disconnected from the project board! @ChrisImagineer what are your thoughts on making matriculation term/date visible to students (along with facstaff)? |
Two ideas -
2 ) I'm curious about why faculty might want to know a matriculation date, so I'll follow-up with Russ. I suspect this might be what he means. So a start date of 08/2022 would be a traditional first-time FY student, even if they came with advanced credits (sophomore), but then it breaks down if the student is a Transfer and arrives in 08/2022. I'll check with Russ and update this item |
I think the "expected graduation" date would be great.
Since not all students will fill it in, the matriculation date gives a
universal clue. It does have caveats, and adding an indication for a
transfer student would be a good addition if possible. I can find it in
MyGordon for my own advisees, but it's hard to figure out for other
students in my classes, and sometimes it would be helpful to know.

1. Expected grad date; this would be helpful for a personal student
view, and could be displayed publicly (option private) as "Class of..." The
"Class" field is just credit dependent, and not the best represenation of
where a student actually is in their journey (frist year student w/40
credits would be a second-semester class of Sophomore, but their grad date
would better reflect their Class cohort. I propose we swap "class" on
Profile for "Class of..." Please spec out how this one might work.

As of right now the expected graduation date (labelled as "Planned Graduation Year") is automatically public once a student sets it. @ChrisImagineer would you rather students be able to set it as private? |
If its easy to make it a toggle to make public/private that is a bonus.

It would be helpful to faculty to know when a student matriculated (first came to Gordon). This might go on the search results page (sort of like alumni year), and definitely on the profile page (perhaps as "student since ____").
Would this info also be helpful for students to see about other students? Before making it visible to students, this idea would need discussion with Chris Carlson.
