Menu on the sidebar not working

After clicking on one a menu on the sidebar menu (*On this page section to the right), we cannot click again a second time.

The cursor won't change to click mode.

Reproducing the issue

• Just visit one page on gohub.io - for example: https://gohugo.io/configuration/introduction/
• Click on one menu from the sidebar on the right (On this page section)
• Click on one menu again. This time it should fail.

Our package.json file contains this:

"@hotwired/turbo": "~8.0.20",

The tilde (~) allows updates to the patch version only, meaning when we build the site we get 8.0.21, 8.0.22, etc.

Turbo v8.0.21 was released on 16 Jan 2026, and that release contains this change:

This pull request vastly simplifies the code around the handling of same-page links...

And the problem described in this issue is triggered by clicking on... same-page links. In #3365 I verified the problem occurs in 8.0.21, 8.0.22, and 8.0.23 (current), but not in 8.0.20.

Whether the upstream change was a bug fix or an enhancement is arguable, but in my view they should have bumped the minor version.

I've got a potential fix for this in #3362, and have created a separate proposal to prevent automatic updates, even at the patch level.
