If source data indicates any treatments received either prior to the case report or during hospitalisation or from any other location should this be captured in the schema to provide information on intervention approaches taken?

Only treatments given for the acute infection should be collected.
Separate variables to indicate treatments prior to admission, and any treatments given during an admission, or treatments given without admission as outpatient.
Capture if specifically indicated that no treatments were given in a separate variable.

Recommendation: addition of treatment variables as a modular set of variables in the schema design that can be used dependent upon the pathogen. Allow for capture of general type of treatment and more specific information if it is available, as per the proposal in the schema documentation.
