I read through that article. Some valid points, some I disagree with:

Valid criticisms:

• The error handling patterns could be cleaner
• Some inconsistencies exist in the API
• Documentation could be better in places

Where I disagree:

• "bad software" is harsh - Gin is battle-tested in production at scale
• Many criticisms apply to Go idioms generally, not Gin specifically
• The comparison to other frameworks ignores Gins simplicity as a feature

My take:

Gin is not perfect, but no framework is. Its popular because:

1. Fast enough for most use cases
2. Simple mental model
3. Large ecosystem and community
4. Easy to learn for Go beginners

If you want something different:

• Echo - cleaner API, similar performance
• Fiber - Express.js style, very fast
• Chi - more idiomatic Go, stdlib-compatible
• stdlib net/http - if you want full control

The best framework is the one your team knows and can ship with. Gin works fine for 90% of use cases. If you hit its limitations, you can always migrate - most Go HTTP code is fairly portable.
