GeoPandas does not actually use GEOS directly, but only through Shapely (or pygeos), so by definition it's always using the GEOS that is used by Shapely. Now, why we report something differently in geopandas/geopandas/tools/_show_versions.py Lines 46 to 49 in f4a9763 But so we might be using the "wrong" way to get this information, as it seems different from |

This is not a usage related question, it's an implementation question for geopandas
Question about geopandas
Q. On the same venv, why does
geopandas
andshapely
not share the samelibgeos
version? e.g.Is
shapely
exposing some otherlibgeos
version togeopandas
or does the latter side-stepshapely
entirely to go find a differentlibgeos
installation? On another system (venv) where there is no system-wide installation for
libgeos
,geopandas
reports there is noGEOS
, butshapely
is working fine with a bundled wheel forlibgeos
.Should
geopandas
useshapely.geos
to identifylibgeos
version details?, e.g.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
