Gammapy Coding Sprint, October 2018, Madrid

  • Start: Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2 pm
  • End: Friday, October 5, 2018 at noon
  • Location: UCM Madrid, Spain. Faculty of physics, third floor room 218B.
  • Contacts: Jose Luis Contreras, Axel Donath

This meeting is a "coding sprint" for people that want to work on Gammapy (http://gammapy.org/). You're very welcome if you're new to coding or haven't contributed to Gammapy yet. But note that this is not a workshop how to use Gammapy. We will also not do any tutorials how to hack on Gammapy, i.e. teach git, Github, Python, pytest and Sphinx. Instead we will pair experienced and new people and learn hands-on. If you want to prepare a bit, have a look at gammapy-dev-tutorial and learn a bit on your own before the coding sprint. Join the Gammapy Slack and feel free to ask anything there.

Travel and hotel

You can find our location and directions of hotels at the High Energy Physics group page (https://www.gae.ucm.es), right hand side, under the Useful information section. The Physics Faculty can be reached from the city or the airport by metro, station Ciudad Universitaria (line 6, grey), from there it is just a ten minutes walk to the faculty (google maps, png). For the metro you need to buy a multi card (2,50€) that you can get from most of the ticket vending machines (multi card). We would recommend to charge this card with a 10-journey ticket (12,20€), you will most likely use all of them during the week. To get to or from the airport there is an supplement of 3,00€ you need to pay (ticket prices)

From the airport to the center it takes approx. 45-60 minutes by metro. A taxi can be faster depending on the traffic (20-?? min). From the airport there is a fixed price of 30€ to get to the center.

Location of the meeting

The meeting will take place in our department's seminar room. When you enter the Physics Faculty:

  • take the stairs or elevator to the 3rd floor
  • go to the left hallway (Dpto de Física Atomica, Molecular y Nuclear / Dpto. de Física Aplicada III)
  • first door on the right (room 218B, Secretaría)

You can either connect to the internet via eduroam or an extra wifi spot we will provide for the meeting.
