Things that could be added:

  • A way to retrieve currency exchange rates and specify value currencies.
  • Import and parse sheet values from remote sources.

Lots of room for discussion here.

What about a way to integrate this into Stickies, like on the Mac? I was thinking of having different stickies (color coated) for different categories and then have them all pipe into one sheet.txt. I am still working out the logistics but feel this would be great for workflow. Then, with a simple alias I can get everything, a succinct summary of expenses, right from the shell. Just thinking of use cases, let me know what you think.

@pennjammin sounds like a kick ass idea, put something like this together and I'll add you directly as a contributor to the project :D

Now... if you look at the library, you'll see all it would take to process, say, a series of groups with datestamps (Mon/YYYY) in series and produce a combined result (i.e., what you'll have saved by the end of a year), is to add another calc()-like method.

So I'm thinking of enabling registering of post/after "calc functions" to add/modify labels/group order and compounded results and potentially several other use cases. (This is what this issue is about.)

@galvez Awesome :) I will take a few days and attack the problem. Thanks for starting this, it was very much something I was looking for. YTD savings would be awesome. I have found that things such as mint and YNAB are cool on the face of it but are a bit bloated for my needs. And it also hurts my brain to spend more money on an app when I am already trying to save, lol.
