Looking for maintainer for QXmlEdit snap before the end of March 2021 #16
Comments
I am still looking for a maintainer to take over this project. I plan to move literally halfway around the world. In this new location my connection to the internet may not be the best and I will no longer have time to do the regular updates for security updates in packages included in this snap. We are now approaching 1900 users of the snap of QXmlEdit. |
We are now half-way through March. So far no one has express an interest in taking over the QXmlEdit snap. Currently it needs less than 100 more users to reach the 2000 users mark. I will not post until the end of the month when I will disable it in the Snap Store and archive it here on Github, unless someone steps forward to take over its maintenance. |
As I (to some degree) appreciate the application and have previously contributed to the packaging I'm willing to take over the snap. I do not rebuild snaps due to security notices though, as I believe the security should be guaranteed by snapd's own confinement, and that most users should automatically have their snap upgraded to the latest published revision as long as the upstream releases frequently. |
@Lin-Buo-Ren I am not sure that I follow your logic on not updating snaps due to security notices. Canonical seems to be very rigorous at sending these emails to have maintainers update packages in snaps for security issues. I the confinement was that good then I doubt they would send these emails. The upstream does not release very often. Back a few years they had about four releases in a year, but this has dropped to two per year in the most recent years. In 2020 there were two releases and I received 17 security update email for QXmlEdit snap from Canonical. I need to think about this one and get input from the QXmlEdit maintainer as well. |
This repository will be archived shortly. All channels for the QXmlEdit have been closed and the snap has been made private. If you are using currently using the QXmlEdit snap please uninstall and install it from another source. The last version of the 0.9.16 snap that was release already contains packages that have security updates for them. If anyone is interested in being the maintainer of this snap that plans to update it for security releases for contained packages please contact me. |
I started this snap to use at work briefly but for a long time no longer use the snap. I have been updating in to get the latest security releases for packages it depends on and releasing these in the Snap Store.
The QXmlEdit maintainer and the Snapcraft Team have both decline in the past to take over maintaining this snap.
At this point in time it is not taking a lot of my time but I would prefer to turn maintaining it over to someone else that actually cares about QXmlEdit, as I fear that at some point I will be unable or unwilling to continue the maintenance and will need to make a decision about whether to remove it from the snap store at that point it time.
This would be sad as in less than a years time the snap has over 1000 installs.
Please contact me via this issue if you have an interest in taking over maintaining the QXmlEdit snap.
