I'm try to use Firestore with Flutter Deskop (MacOS). But I'm getting always this error since my first try for a month.

[cloud_firestore/unavailable] The service is currently unavailable. This is a most likely a transient condition and may be corrected by retrying with a backoff.

Steps to reproduce

1. Created iosApp on Firebase and downloaded GoogleService-Info.plist file to macos project
2. AppBundle (in Runner.xcworkspace) is edited like on Firebase
3. Creted a collection and document on Firebase (myCollection/myDocument)
   (All steps on https://firebase.flutter.dev/docs/installation/macos)

Expected behavior

I wish to get name value from myDocument on Firebase

Since firebase_core is the first and foremost important plugin after migration, initializing it is the first step to integrate firebase in your app. You can do that inside main() method itself, like below and see if it works for you.

My apologies, my comment wasn't very helpful without additional context. I don't know why you are getting the Firebase has not been initialized. error. I tried looking through your code, but I'm pretty new to Flutter and wasn't able to spot the issue.

My comment about the entitlement was to address your original problem, which was that you were getting an error message about cloud_firestore being unavailable.

That said, here is a main.dart file that successfully connects to Firestore for me on macos. I imagine all the other setup (pubspec, entitlements, etc) is now similar to mine so I won't paste it all.

I created a new project from scratch, and made the (I think) minimum changes to make it work for Firestore. The one piece it doesn't have is the GoogleService-Info.plist file, since you'll need that from your own project.

I am trying to install a chat app made in flutter which runs fine on my real device but gives this error when I try to run on android emulator, tried all options mentioned above but no change. Enabled internet, tried the minifyEnabled solution for emulator, added classpath 'com.google.gms:google-services:4.3.13' but nothing changed and app does not even start but gives error FirebaseException ([cloud_firestore/unavailable] The service is currently unavailable. I am re-facing this issue now with my project, after more than a year with 0 unavailable error.
It started reappearing again on Dec 8th. I implemented a retry mechanism for each Firebase call with a 60sec timeout, and the calls to doc(String).get() all fail all the time while the wireless connection works perfectly fine. The snapshots on Firestore documents work on the other end, except if I call .last on them, they then never complete.

I was about to release my first beta to our test users, I am now totally blocked with no idea on what I can do.
I have of course tried the classics: restarting my router, my mac, the phones, cleaning everything, I added a FirebaseFirestore.instance.disableNetwork/enableNetwork in my retry mechanism etc.

Am I the only one in that case?

If a Firestore dev reads this, I rolled back my project to the last beta release that was stable, and I got rid of the unavailable errors by using these pub versions:

Unstable

cloud_firestore: ^4.2.0

It's a pretty large range, and I do not have time to test all intermediate versions, but the problem appeared between 3.4.3 and 4.2.0

Good news, it's not a server issue, it is definitely a client library issue. Either in the Flutter adapter layer or the native library.

After a day of testing and playing with versions, I could get back to a stable situation by using google-services 4.3.13 and cloud_firestore 4.2.0 instead of the latest 4.3.14
I could not find any official recommendation on the version to use with firebase, until I tried, desperately, regenerating a new google-services.json from the console, and there the install steps mention using 4.3.13
It would help to have the recommended google-services version mentioned on the pub pages of the packages.

I have done about 8 hours of testing, so the problem could reappear.

I've been grappling with this over the last few days and the repeatable behaviour I've been able to produce is this:

• Occurs when trying to get a specific document from a collection where that document doesn't exist
• Only occurs when offline
• Occurs on Android and IOS

For example, the below DOESN'T raise the error:

However, the below DOES raise the error (only when offline):

For both of the above I have confirmed that the correct data is stored in the cache when offline

What is also strange is making this call online first, then going offline doesn't cause the error but if the device is offline the first time the call is made raises the error.

2. Terminal -> flutter create . // This will recreate the ios folder for you
3. Terminal -> flutter clean && flutter pub get && flutterfire configure
4. Select your project, configure and setup once again.
5. Build project again

I don't have anything like that in my code. I read document only through listener. Update is part of separate function...

Are you using google ml kit in your code? They do cause this kind of issue in the app.

I was able to resolve this issue by getting off of the spark plan and then redoing my database collection, thankfully I didn't have data to restore but this worked out for me.
